Schooling

The original school in the district of Sourin was built in 1872. In 1960 the school transferred to its present site (map grid C3).

In 1984 the school was extended to incorporate a community wing, and has recently undergone major refurbishment;

with the addition of a new pre-school room, staff room, sick bay and the Healthy Living Centre.

The school serves the islands of Rousay, Egilsay & Wyre.

It has two primary classes (P1-3 & P4-7) and a separate pre-school class.

Secondary age pupils attend Kirkwall Grammar School (KGS) or the Stromness Academy.

KGS students have access to the school hostel in Kirkwall should they wish to board or

they can choose to travel to and from Kirkwall daily on the ferry and a bus service.
